Phenomenal ingredient quality, and courteous and friendly service staff, this restaurant is easily overlooked if passing by, but a must enter, and enjoy. The ambiance is very pleasing, but the menu steals the show. We tried the tasting course, a carefully crafted progression of flavors, that invite you more and more into the umami world, showing some risk taking but executing to perfection (like the tiny chips of garlic on sea scallops and filet). I would have my immediate next meal here if I could.Perhaps in many years I’ll be back in Kanazawa. If I am, I’ll revisit Fuwari.
Such a lovely restaurant in Kanazawa. The chef was very nice and super friendly and spoke good English too. His knife skill were impressive and the way food is treated and presented and prepared is a joy to witness. Tasted amazing. The restaurant is small and cozy and welcoming. Please book ahead to avoid disappointment. 5 stars!
Superb. Friendly, helpful staff, busy/ lively atmosphere, fantastic food. Try for a seat at the counter to watch the chefs at work. An excellent and very memorable meal.
Exceptional and worth the wait. I've never ate unagi but the grilled unagi was really good! Overall each dish were had its own uniqueness. Will surely come again if in Kanazawa. Reserve early as many yummy delicacies are sold out later in the evening.
Delicious and inventive kaiseke! Beautiful presentation. Friendly place.
Excellent restaurant with amazing food. It’s located in a traditional Japanese house with an open kitchen. Great to see the cook preparing your dishes while seating at the counter. Table seats are available. Definitely recommend it!
Ppl are nice and a lot of type of dishes.
The food was very good. The service was great. We shared all the dishes that were very tasty.cash only.
Firstly, went here on a whim, managed to get a seat at the bar, the hostess was super friendly, fast, spoke great English, she runs a tight ship, it was super busy and she was on top of everything. Secondly the food was fantastic, I started with a shrimp heating croquet, then fried unagi (eel), finished up with the sashimi platter, the tuna, mackerel and barracuda was sensational. Lastly the head chef was such a super nice guy, asked me multiple times how I was doing, how my meal was, as well as the other staff who had much more limited English. I would say this is easily the best meal I had in Japan, I would suggest making a reservation, they turned away a bunch of people because it was a full house!
We had an assortment of dishes. The sushi was fresh and superb, the grilled meats were delicious and tender. We had green tea noodles which were served cold but had a great taste. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There was an English menu. Mid range prices with great value. Will definitely come back
We were exploring the tea district of Kanazawa when we decided to go for dinner. My friend found this place on Google maps with great reviews so we decided upon this place. When you arrive the place, you are hesitant to walk in as it was placed on nondescript street and looks like someone's house, but once you open the door, it was bustling and the restaurant was packed on a Monday night! We did not have a reservation but luckily there were 2 seats available. The food was done perfectly, the charcoal grilled meat melts in your mouth. And grilled fish that was so fresh and pair with mushrooms. The issue was that the place was very smoky and secondly they somehow missed our fish order and had to wait for quite a while. However, their chef came out and apologise profusely and gave us a dessert and small dish. Service was prompt and good. Chef also speaks good English.
We had an amazing time here! We were lucky they still had a spot for us at the bar, it was so nice to see them work. The quality of the food was just amazing, one of the better ones we had in our trip now. Also the staff was super friendly and helpful. When you visit Kanazawa, please make sure to visit this place, you won’t regret it!
Incredibly delicious dishes! The preparation and creativity is next level..a gem of a find! The atmosphere is modern with traditional influences. The staff was exceptional. We will certainly recommend this restaurant to all our friends that visit the area. Very happy to have found this spot.
We had a delicious 8 course tasting menu which was the best food we’ve had in Japan so far - amazing! Service was great and reasonably priced for the quality of what you get. Highly recommend.
Wonderful place for an izakaya experience. The atmosphere and the service was lovely. Food was excellent, simply cooked, very tasty and every dish was special.
Nice food and menu is easy to navigate. Chefs speak enough English to get by. The food is nice and first class and although a bit pricey it is fresh and a good way to get a good izakaya experience in a nice setting.
Atmosphere. Dishes. Drinks. Service. All 5*. One of Kanazawa’s finest spots!
Amazing especially the raw fishðŸ˜
Unbelievable (with a big full stop). Can I just say give this place a Michelin star now? Unreal quality, and what a fusion of traditional izakaya coupled with fine tasting atmosphere. This is just unreal. I never imagine eating the best izakaya food in Kanazawa (ignore my lack of knowledge). Chefs speak pretty good English and they care about showmanship together with dishing out quality and tasty food. I'm typing this out as I'm halfway through their signature tasting course. Sure the price is slightly higher than most izakaya(s) but is definitely cheaper than most high end places I've been to. Check my profile if you don't believe it. Go try them out and thank me later.
Delicious food with an open kitchen that you can watch from the counter. Prices are reasonable for the food quality, but don't expect a very low bill here.
It was a short time But nice experience there
The food is very good, but a little bit pricey. Staffs are nice and they can speak English.
We came in by a chance and were lucky there was a table for us before the reservation would come. We ordered sashimi, tempura squid, pressed sushi, chciken in vinegar and grilled rice ball soup. Sashimi was very tasty and fresh, one of the best ive eaten during the trip. It also had barracuda which i never tasted before. Tempura was crunchy and light with great fresh squid. I was really impressed by their pressed sushi, which is something quite different from sushi you normally get.it has mackerel, shiso, ginger with vinegary soy sauce. Amazing taste. Chicken was very good as well, i could eat a whole bowl of it with rice if given chance. Grilled rice ball soup was a nice touch to end the meal with crunchy rice and tasty broth. The staff is english speaking and helpful. The restaurant is in an amazing renovated old building and if you sit by the bar you can watch the cooks prepare your meal. All in all, i highly recommend and would visit again if we were staying in kanazawa longer.
The best food we had so far in Japan! Everything was delicious and it was amazing to see the chef preparing the dishes in front of us! Highly recommended!
Great izakaya in Kanazawa. Food was superb- from fresh sashimi and rock oysters to the grilled meats. Very cool yet traditional vibe. English friendly. Cash only. Would definitely recommend, but make a reservation as the place gets busy.
Suprisingly good. I was explained what the assorted fishes are, I tried a few dishes and it satisfied all my taste buds. David was friendly and curteous and made the experience overall quite pleasant
Wonderful izakaya with some delicious local seafood, English friendly, great service. Loved the sashimi, pressed sushi, and rice ball in soup. Highly recommended!
Brilliant chefs making superb food at very reasonable prices. We had the tasting menu and everything was amazing. Staff speaks english and whole experience was memorable. Must visit if you are at kanazawa.
Everything we ordered was superb. Staff were super attentive and friendly, highly recommend.
Only tried Japanese Food there, Excellent! Kind staffs. It’s a smart idea to reserve before arrival.
Really tasty dishes and drinks here at this Izakaya. I loved the fresh sashimi platter, as well as the grilled pig intestines. It gets crowded so best to book ahead.
Great delicious restaurant. You can watch the food getting cooked right in front of you. The atmosphere was great and the service was excellent!!Quite pricey though.
Really nice place, loved the atmosphere food & service
This isakaya was worth a trip to Japan! The sashimi omekase was fresh and delicious, the flavors in the horse mackerel raw appetizer was wonderful, as was the beef dish. And not least, the pear sorbet was delicate fragrant and sublime. Also enjoyed their local sake.
Really tasty izakaya. The oysters were amazing as was lotus in tempura and pork and lotus sandwich. The snow crab did not impress me, but maybe it's just me. Service was helpful and attentive. All in all worth recommending
Great izakaya place that serves good fish and meat. Owners are pretty friendly and can speak english. They also have the whole menu and drinks translated into english.Their specialty is basically sushi but their grilled offerings were also very delicious.
Solid food overall but I have had better. Eel and beef filet were probably the best dishes. Very attentive staff who let us in without reservation!
Lovely place that's worth a try.
Fairly decent izakaya food frequented by tourists, probably due to it's feature in several travel recommendation sites. The take on their food is not as traditional, but they do taste good.
Beautiful food and helpful staff! It’s a must in Kanazawa
I’m not sure what to call this place – perhaps upscale izakaya? Anyway, it’s a really nice Japanese-style restaurant that serves a variety of excellent fish (including great sashimi) and a variety of meat and vegetable dishes, all creatively created and presented. It’s highly recommended
Absolutely amazing! Hands down one of the best meals I've ever had! Prepared right infront of me. The staff was amazing, very courteous and friendly. The head chef, with everything he had to do, took the time to meet us at the door and wish us a good night. Highly recommended to all if ever you visit the beautiful city of Takayama.
The chef is amazing, just sit and watch him prepare the dishes. Food was excellent. Not cheap but definitely worth it.
The perfect upscale Japanese izakaya. It had exactly the kind of ambience I wanted. Slightly fancy without being too arrogant. The waitress was a Japanese American and she explained everything on the menu so well. The sashimi platter was so fresh and incredible and beautiful to see the chefs make. Worth the $$$
Excellent izakaya for options and a neat drink menu. Delicious and prompt service. Get a reservation, you'll need one!
Amazing food, sashimi platter is a must-try
Small Izakaya producing upscale yakitori and other grilled delights. Well priced menu, although you have to restrain yourself whilst ordering otherwise things could easily get out of control. Almost devoured the menu, stayed with their grilled options. The eel is amazing. Great tasting food.Mostly frequented by gaijin with some locals dotted around. Grab a seat at the bar for the view of all the cooking. Highly recommended.
Delicious food! I was skeptical on the raving review at first and wasn't convinced. I mean, HOW good an Ikasaya place can really be?! Man, I am glad I went. every dish is made with care and I was taken by surprised. I got the sashimi and one of them was to be eaten with dry flower flakes. What?! Super friendly staff and some speak good English. Cozy atmosphere. Do make reservation! The place wasn't hard to find with google map (I walked around the whole city the whole day). And please do yourself a flavor and get the pear sorbet.
Awesome food with complex flavours (in a positive way). Personable chef, takes great lengths to explain how each dish is to be experienced.
They could charge double the price in another country.Food is fantastic, the head chef is amazing and I would thoroughly recommend.
